IMPERDIBILE MARILYN – DONNA, MITO, MANAGER – the exhibition at the Palazzo degli Esami of Rome
An original exhibition at the Palazzo degli Esami of Rome (May 17, 2017 – July 30, 2017).
In addition the objects, dresses and documents of Marilyn Monroe, we can also perceive the soul and the sensibility of this Hollywood Celebrity thanks to the Italian curator Fabio Di Gioia and the German art collector Ted Stampfer, who made more than 300 Marilyn’s objects available for this event.
This is an international exhibition where we can see famous dresses, make up and hairpins, jewels and cinematographic material, letters and books that belonged to this woman who – with her femininity and determination – reached an important aim for the feminine emancipation after World War II. This historical moment is also important for the link between the Italian cinematographic production of Neorealism and its positive effects on American people: for example – in 1959 – Marilyn Monroe received the David di Donatello Award for Best Foreign Actress from Anna Magnani to the Italian Cultural Institute of New York.
Overlooking the impact to see the real Marilyn’s objects, we mainly feel the essence and the absence. The essence – from her dresses, pictures, sound of voice, smiles – is all around the exhibition space showing us her deep absence.
All we can do – at this point – is miss this gorgeous Woman.
